Overview

Lens dislocation (ectopia lentis) is the malposition of the natural crystalline eye lens from its original position in the centre of the eye. Normally, the eye lens rests behind the pupil in the middle of the eye. The lens becomes dislodged when it is forced out of alignment into another area of the eye.

Ectopia lentis usually occurs after a traumatic injury to the eye, but it's important to note that some people may be born with the condition due to a genetic mutation, in which case it’s known as congenital ectopia lentis.
